The Cisco PS5011 Encoder provides real-time 4:2:0 MPEG-2 MP@ML audio and video encoding at data rates up to 15 Mbps, which is ideal for any application that does not require further video processing, such as TV content redistribution. The Cisco PS5400 MSE Encoder provides real-time 4:2:0 MPEG-2 MP@ML audio and video encoding at data rates up to 15 Mbps-with multistage encoding. Multistage encoding generates a single stream with a reduced bit rate, two separate MPEG-2 streams, or separate MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams. The Cisco PS5012 Audio-only Encoder provides audio-only MPEG-encoding of baseband audio signals.
The Cisco PS5011 and PS5400 Encoders receive separate analog or digital audio and video streams from the system network. Any data in the Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI) is removed from video input and is passed through the system for MPEG video compression. As the video signals are compressed, up to four analog, two digital, or two embedded audio channels are separately MPEG-compressed. The system then recombines the audio and video streams and sends them to the midplane for further processing, or out directly over a network interface.
The Cisco PS5011 and PS5400 Encoders automatically detect and support NTSC and PAL video standards and accept both analog composite video and serial digital video inputs. The encoders also extract closed captioning information from the video signal for inclusion in the compressed video stream and provide full control over the Group of Picture (GOP) structure and image resolution.
The Cisco PS5012 Encoder is an audio-only encoder. Data flow through the Cisco PS5012 Encoder is the same as in the Cisco PS5011 and PS5400 Encoders, but without the video element.
The Cisco PS5011, PS5012, and PS5400 Encoders work in conjunction with audio and video input modules. The Cisco PS5015 Analog/Digital A/V Input accepts analog baseband or digital video, and balanced analog or digital audio, which it sends to its paired encoder. The Cisco PS5016 Digital Video Input accepts only digital video, as well as balanced analog or unbalanced digital audio, which it sends to its paired encoder. A Digital Video Broadcast/Access Server Integration (DVB/ASI) video output is available on each input module to send video data to the system from an external source. These input modules are designed to work in conjunction with any of the Cisco PS5010, PS5011, PS5012, or PS5400 Encoders.
